These four students have donated their hair to a progam called “Locks of Love”.  Locks for Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to finacially disadvantaged children under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.  Their donated beautiful long hair will make wigs  and be provided to underprivileged children who have suffered an illness to help restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

Evan Stafford– 5th Grade            Gulf Elementary
Evan made an appointment with Gulf Elementary administrators to discuss his idea to bring the Southwest Military Museum to his school.  His presentation was very well prepared and convincing.  He explained that he and his dad goes to the museum a lot and he always learns something new.  He felt that the students from Gulf would benefit from seeing the museum.  He brought brochures and contact information.  Because of his efforts, Gulf’s PTO contacted the museum and had their mobile museum come to Gulf’s Fall Festival.  Many families got to see the museum and talk to the veterans about the items.

Camden Lucas – 3rd Grade             Oasis Elementary
Cecile Carpenter was hospitalized on May 30th and died on July 13th.  As she laid in the hospital bed she made her daughter Kim, promise to nominate Camden for his bravery.  Her words were as follows, “I would like my grandson, Camden to be recognized for this bravery.  I have COPD and went into respiratory distress when I was watching him on May 30th.  Camden, realizing how sick I was and called his mom on the phone. Kim in turn called 9-1-1 and then called Camden back.  Camden talked to his mom in such a grown up way, he stayed calm and did everything they told him to do.  He took care of me the best he could and helped me stayed calm when I couldn’t breathe.  He saved my life that day and I am so proud of him.  I am the luckiest Nanna.”

Dylan Taylor-11 grader            Oasis High School
The Christian Life Center Youth Ministry Team travelled to Columbia this summer with 33 individuals participating including Dylan.  Along with others, Dylan played a key role in putting on a weeklong camp for destitute and abandoned children living in that city.  He also spent each afternoon in another close by village putting on additional programs for other underprivileged and undereducated children.  The youth team entertained the children with plays and shows and Dylan, partly because of his ability to speak some Spanish, was able to make an extra special connection with the children.  Dylan and the team were able to bring real hope and love to children who otherwise can only hope to simply survive each day in crime-infested, gang-filled environments.  Dylan worked and played very closely with children and teens who live in circumstances beyond anyone’s imagination.  What makes this young man even more special is that he could have just stayed in Cape Coral, and participate in a summer camp which he was qualified and excited about.  The camp would have meant additional awards and promotions for Dylan, but Dylan chose to put others’ needs before his personal advancement.
