For some families, Black Friday shopping is a tradition. While shoppers are getting the best deals from their favorite stores, criminals are also shopping and looking for great deals. Being prepared can save you the heartache of being a victim of crime during this holiday season.
Here are a few tips to help keep you safe during your Black Friday shopping experience.
Be aware of your surroundings. Never leave your personal items or packages unattended and be alert when loading major purchases into your vehicle.
Take extra precautions if children are accompanying you. Plan for a location to meet if your group gets separated and make sure children have your cell phone number and know how to call 911 in an emergency.
Keep your cool. Do not fight over items with other customers. Even the best of deals is not worth an injury or a trip to jail.
Use a single credit card. Carrying cash can attract thieves. If your purse or wallet is stolen, carrying a single credit card means only having to make one cancellation call.
Be vigilant on the roads and in parking lots. Big crowds can mean higher vehicle and pedestrian congestion leading to a higher chance for crashes.
Park in well lit areas of the parking lot
Keep packages inside your purchases out of sight from criminals who look in your vehicle.
