Cape Coral Police Make Arrest in Home Invasion Robbery
(February 22, 2013)- Cape Coral Police Detectives have made an arrest in the January 29th home invasion robbery at 4200 SW 3rd Avenue.
Ronald Eugene Ashley III, 16, was arrested on Thursday evening by Detectives after confessing to the crime.
On Tuesday January 29th Steven Northcutt was on his patio when two masked subjects stormed his house. The suspects pointed a semi-automatic pistol at Northcutt and demanded he open his safe. During the robbery, a struggle ensued and Northcutt was pistol whipped by one of the suspects.
The suspects fled the scene with approximately $20,000 in cash and rare silver coins among other items.
A neighborhood canvass revealed surveillance video from a neighbor of a dark colored Nissan Armada casing the area before the robbery and leaving the neighborhood after the crime. Detectives went to work developing suspects and eventually developed Ashley.
The result of surveillance and witness interviews established probable cause for Ashley’s arrest. He has been charged with Home Invasion Robbery and Aggravated Battery. Detectives are still investigating and searching for the second suspect.
“This was the result of good fortune (having the surveillance video), solid detective work and determination. Another violent criminal is off of our streets”- Lieutenant Tony Sizemore.
