Cape Coral Police Investigate Serious Injury Crash; Child Critically Injured

LOCATION: 500 block Hancock Bridge Parkway East
VEHICLE 1: 2006 Ford Fusion car, Florida tag# 642PXX.
DRIVER 1: Marnise Pierre, B/F, 5-10-89, 1165 Bentcreek Loop Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33916.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Pierre suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.
PEDESTRIAN: 9-year old, W/M juvenile.
PEDESTRIAN INJURIES: Juvenile suffered life threatening head injuries in the traffic crash.
SYNOPSIS:
A 9 year old Pedestrian was running back and forth across Hancock Bridge Parkway between his house and a friend’s house. Vehicle 1 was traveling West in the outside lane of Hancock Bridge Parkway. Based on witnesses, the Pedestrian ran from the South side of Hancock to the median and paused. The Pedestrian then ran North across the West lanes of Hancock Bridge Parkway and into the right-of-way of Vehicle 1. Vehicle 1 skidded to attempt to avoid the Pedestrian but was not able to. The front of Vehicle 1 struck the Pedestrian causing him to strike the hood and then hit the roadway.
The Pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was trauma alerted to Lee Memorial Hospital where it was learned he suffered a life threatening head injury. The Pedestrian was then airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
Alcohol/drugs IS NOT a factor in this traffic crash. The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified and was present at the time of the traffic crash. THI Satterlee, Forensics, and Victim Advocate Lucas responded to the scene.
The driver of Vehicle 1 IS NOT at fault in the traffic crash and will not be cited.
