Driver From Morning Crash Dies

(November 22, 2013)- The driver of the motorcycle involved in this morning's crash that tied up traffic around Pine Island Road and Cultural Park Boulevard has died. Cape Coral Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators have concluded their preliminary investigation at the scene and traffic has been re-opened on both roadways. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Next-of-kin have been notified. A synopsis of the crash is below:

LOCATION: Pine Island Road and Cultural Park Boulevard

VEHICLE 1: 2003 black Harley Davidson motorcycle, Florida tag# 96ASG.
DRIVER 1: Joshua Edison Banner, W/M, 6-4-91, 3508 SW 15 Place, Cape Coral, Florida 33914.
DRIVER 1 INJURIES: Banner died at Lee Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in the traffic crash.

VEHICLE 2: 2012 gold Chrysler Town and Country van, Florida tag# 322EAN.
DRIVER 2: Ronald F. Boevers, W/M, 2-21-39, 1703 NE 7 Place, Cape Coral, Florida 33990.
DRIVER 2 INJURIES: Boevers suffered no injuries in the traffic crash.

SYNOPSIS:

Vehicle 1 (a motorcycle) was east on Pine Island Road from Santa Barbara Boulevard. Vehicle 2 was West on Pine Island Road waiting to turn South onto Cultural Park Boulevard. According to witness statements, Vehicle 1 was driving recklessly, changed lanes several times, was cutting off other vehicles, and not using its turn signal as it approached Cultural Park Boulevard. Vehicle 2 began to turn South on Cultural Park Boulevard as Vehicle 1 changed lanes again. The front of Vehicle 1 struck the right front of Vehicle 2 causing the driver of Vehicle 1 to be ejected off of his vehicle. The driver of Vehicle 1 came to final rest in the intersection on the roadway.

The driver of Vehicle 1 was trauma alerted by ambulance to Lee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:06 am. At the time of the traffic crash, the driver of Vehicle 1 was NOT wearing a helmet or other safety equipment. The driver of Vehicle 2 did not suffer any injuries.

It is unknown at this time if this traffic crash is alcohol/drug related. The next-of-kin HAS BEEN notified. Traffic Homicide investigators Satterlee and Green responded.
