(April 5, 2022) - The Cape Coral Police Department conducted a DUI Checkpoint on the evening of April 1st, 2022. This was part of our continuing efforts to increase traffic safety awareness, education, and emphasis on the importance of obeying traffic laws to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and deaths on the roadways in Cape Coral. (529 vehicles passed through the checkpoint during its operational time and drivers/passengers contacted were provided with impaired driving educational materials)

Morales failed to stop for the checkpoint and ran the red light at Pondella Road. Signs of impairment were seen, and the resulting DUI investigation ended in his arrest. Breath refused.

CHARGES: DUI - Influence of Alcohol or Drugs
A traffic stop for drifting into an officer’s lane of travel and almost striking him led into a DUI investigation. Signs of impairment were seen, and the resulting DUI investigation ended in his arrest.
