(March 17, 2022) - Please join us in congratulating CCPD Officer Daniel Thomas and Officer Davis Rios on receiving the Meritorious Service Award, one of the Cape Coral Police Department’s highest honors.
From Sergeant Ryan Tronchet’s nomination:
On December 23rd, 2021, Officer Rios and DUI Officer Thomas responded to a burglary in progress in Cape Coral. The unknown suspect entered an enclosed lanai, attempted entry at the front and rear doors. The suspect was armed with a knife and stabbed one of the doors multiple times, attempting to break the glass as well as cutting the screen door. The suspect was wearing all dark clothing, a mask and armed with a knife.
Officer Rios and DUI Officer Thomas immediately responded to the residence and approached the residence without hesitation. Officers heard the suspect banging on the rear door of the victim’s residence, as they approached and confronted the armed suspect. The suspect began to take flight and officers were able to restrict the suspect’s avenue of escape and safely apprehended the suspect without incident. The vistim’s were extremely happy with our quick response and immediate action of taking the suspect into custody.
For this reason, Officer Rios and DUI Officer Thomas received the Meritorious Service Award from Chief Tony Sizemore.
